Hietbrink’s work investigates to what extent the experience of the space surrounding us can be manipulated, allowing us to reinterpret it. Elements such as shape, structure, construction and acoustics, which all lie within the architectonic framework, form an important role within his practice. By manipulating these spatial elements, he is able to transform the characteristics of the real space. When the audience experiences this as a whole it will cause confusion, thus forcing them to question what they see and hear.
An important aspect is the need to create order out of chaos. It particularly fascinates him to search for the boundary between order and chaos, because that is precisely where things we understand dissolve into what we don’t understand.
