Andreas Brunner’s artistic practice is dedicated to an ongoing questioning and renegotiation of concepts, and unfolds in a broad spectrum of media forms of expression. His thematic focus often revolves around speculative cultural developments and the dynamics and systems through which meaning is created. His works explore how these processes explain existence, how they shape the perception of the present moment and how they contribute to the demarcation between culture and nature.
Through an intuitive and speculative approach, Brunner seeks poetic gestures that deal with longing, restlessness and transience. In recent years, his works have mainly manifested themselves in sculptural installations, video arrangements and in the combination of found and handmade objects. Repetition, emptying of meaning and humorous absurdity – always on the verge of melancholy – are central, recurring motifs in his work.
