Jil Lahr’s artistic practice explores everyday objects and culturally charged symbols, which she brings together in installations, mixed-media works, and site-specific and collaborative projects. Through her process, assemblages, paintings, sculptures, and photographs emerge, opening up new perspectives and narratives. Recurring motifs, objects, forms, and colors create a visual vocabulary through which she investigates questions of meaning, memory, and cultural attribution.

A central focus of her work is the exploration of superstition, belief, and spirituality, which she observes within the ordinary and everyday. She is particularly interested in the symbolic significance of lucky and unlucky charms, as well as the myths, legends, and personal stories attached to them. Her work examines the tension between individual fate and collective notions of luck and fortune.

Grounded in a research-based and material-driven approach, Lahr investigates how objects carry, communicate, and transform meaning. By combining research, experimentation, and installation, she creates works that make social narratives visible and encourage new ways of looking at what is often considered familiar or commonplace.
