Regina José Galindo

I was born in Guatemala City and am still living and working in Guatemala, though now in a small village near the city. I am a visual artist specialised in performance art and a poet. I am an artist from the periphery, but I believe this does not matter, because art does not recognise peripheries – art is universal. In my work I am trying to explore the universal ethical implications of social injustice, discrimination related to race and gender, and other abuses involved in the unequal power relations that operate in our current societies.
