Sjur Eide Aas is interested in universal phenomena that he discovers in his everyday life. His works are transformations of ordinary happenings, situations, mechanisms, and objects, which he turns into minimalist sculptures, often with the slightest alteration.
The sculptures are made from a variety of materials such as wood, textiles, beeswax, and found objects, which he combines in unconventional ways. This choice of materials contributes to the complexity and playful nature of his works.
By emphasizing the absence of things, his installations create an atmosphere of the unspoken and the open, leaving space for the imagination of the viewer. Working with references from literature or scientific theories, his work bring poetics and physical laws in an interesting interplay.
In contrast to his remote rural studio in Norway, Eide Aas will now continue his search for the universal in the urban streets of Berlin, where encounters with new social and cultural dynamics will add an additional dimension to his work.
