Through sculpture, photography, video and installation, Tracey Snelling conveys an impression of a particular socio-topographical place, its people and its atmosphere. Her immersive works often reflect environments that are under threat – be it through gentrification, political unrest or erasure.

Snelling’s key strength as an artist lies in her ability to capture the essence of time and place. As a sociologist/historian, she engages with her surroundings by incorporating inhabitants, localities and atmospheric details into vivid artworks. By closely observing her immediate surroundings and selecting specific visual and emotional cues, she transforms this information into works that can best be described as three-dimensional, non-linear sculptural films. Combining sculpture, video, light and sound, her installations offer multi-layered portraits of people and places at a particular moment in history.
