Yunho Kim is convinced that photography is the most critical means of recording and representing our lives as well as social and cultural phenomena. Although his work is a mere cry from that of an auteur and has no influence on the environment of our lives, Kim proposes that his work be considered a critical viewpoint and momentum in that it makes viewers investigate our surroundings and culture. For this purpose, he relies on the method of typological documentary – one of the most significant methods in contemporary photography – as well as photography’s inherent ability of recording. In Kim’s opinion, typological documentation as initiated in German photography is a tool of social critique, satisfying both the need to document and the artistic purpose of photography.
