Becoming B

With Becoming B, Antje Weitzel, the new artistic director, initiates a long-term transformation process that reimagines Künstlerhaus Bethanien as a dynamic space for exchange, creation, and presentation. Over the course of a year, we will explore in five chapters—together with artists, cultural practitioners, and the Berlin public—how the name and identity of the institution might evolve.

With its 50th anniversary recently celebrated, Künstlerhaus Bethanien has long been a vital space for art and cultural exchange. But as the world changes, so do the expectations of a residency as a temporary home and workspace. At the heart of this reflection are openness, diversity, and transformation. Building on the idea that Bethanien could have a „twin“ or „descendant“—Bethany, a nonbinary figure with many possible names—this process creates room for new perspectives, fostering change and fresh narratives at Künstlerhaus Bethanien.
