On February 14, 2026, at 5 pm, the Künstlerhaus Bethanien will host an artist talk on the occasion of Sweet Sweet Sun, the exhibition by Gili Avissar. In conversation with Friederike Fast, Deputy Director and Curator at the Kunstmuseum Bonn, the artist will discuss key aspects of his current practice and the development of the exhibition.
Gili Avissar works interdisciplinarily at the intersection of painting, sculpture, video, performance, and dance. A recurring focus of his practice is textile work, in which he combines weaving, knotting, and patchwork techniques using predominantly reused materials. These processes result in expansive installations populated by fantastical creatures that move between human, animal, and plant forms, addressing themes of transformation, movement, and metamorphosis. Gili Avissar frequently uses his own body as a medium, so that individual works also function as costumes for videos and performances. Through ongoing collaborations with performers, dancers, and choreographers, his works are regularly translated into new contexts of dance and theatre. The talk will also explore Gili Avissar’s site-specific interventions, in which material, space, and nature enter into a continuous dialogue, opening up new perspectives on the relationship between the human and non-human world.
Gili Avissar contributes to the new collection presentation „POWER FIELDS – New Perspectives from the Collection“ at Kunstmuseum Bonn through a specially developed artistic intervention. The exhibition opens July 12, 2026 11:30 am and is on view until December 31, 2027.
