As part of Waters, this deep, chapter 5 of the exhibition series Becoming B, Künstlerhaus Bethanien invites you to Ocean Bodies, a performance and meditation by Irene Fernández Arcas at HAMAM Berlin. The artist’s sound work opens up the space for an artistic meditation setting in which scent and sound invite you to slow down and promote a state of calm.

Hygieia, daughter of Asclepius, is the ancient Greek goddess of water, health, cleanliness, and prevention. Hygiene comes from that word. The ancient practices of care among women in those common rooms of regeneration like the hamam, are the heritage of care – not capitalized daily routines but collective practices of love. Drawing from water goddesses that live inside the water of our bodies, this shared meditation and performance invites us to embody our oceanic selves. Through sound, breath, water infusions, writing, and collective presence, we gather to rest, regenerate, and practice care for ourselves and one another, allowing health, radiance, and water to flow through and inside us.

Ocean Bodies opens the space for a conversation about water, collective practices of care, architectures and rooms of healing and regeneration, in which participants may take part according to their own needs or simply listen.

Schedule: 5:00-6:00 pm performance and meditation. Participants can then spend the evening together in the Hamam, bringing the experience to a close by 8:00 pm. From 6:00 pm, HAMAM Berlin opens to additional visitors.
