The International Studio Programme at Künstlerhaus Bethanien has been providing artists from around the world with the opportunity to develop and deepen their artistic practice in a creative and supportive environment for over 50 years. Located in one of Europe’s most dynamic art capitals, emerging artists have the chance to realize new ideas and strengthen their position within the global art context.
A key feature of our program is the individualized support provided to each artist. During their stay, which typically lasts 6 to 12 months, artists receive tailored assistance — both in the practical execution of their ideas and in connecting with the Berlin art scene. This close guidance not only fosters artistic growth but also opens doors to new collaborations and perspectives, both locally and internationally.
Beyond personal support, living and working at Künstlerhaus Bethanien is a unique experience. The shared daily life within the house encourages spontaneous collaborations and the exchange of knowledge and experiences, leading to a vibrant network of artists and creatives.
The program offers a variety of presentation opportunities: Regular Open Studios allow artists to showcase their creative processes and completed works to a broad audience. These events provide valuable chances to engage with other artists, curators, and art enthusiasts. Additionally, we organize Studio Visits with professionals and art practitioners, offering artists insightful feedback and fresh perspectives.
As part of their residency, artists also have the opportunity to present their works in the exhibition spaces of the house. The exhibitions not only provide a deep insight into the artists’ practices but also invite the Berlin public to discover and experience innovative and diverse perspectives.
The exhibitions and networks that emerge from our international residency program are pivotal in the artistic growth of our participating artists. Many of our former residents have gone on to further their careers and showcase their work at renowned institutions across the globe.
