Künstlerhaus Bethanien Berlin, in cooperation with The International Centre for Contemporary Art MeetFactory, announces an open call for a residency for a Berlin based artist at MeetFactory in Prague.
Residency Overview
• Host: MeetFactory, Prague
• Duration: 15 April – 30 June 2026 (2.5 months)
• Eligibility: Artists based in Berlin
⚠️ The residency must be completed in one continuous period.
Thematic Framework
The residency addresses the persistent influence of nationalist narratives—defense of borders, notions of homeland and statehood, and symbolic imaginaries of tradition, security, protection, and stability. These narratives continue to shape political and social structures, while repeatedly being instrumentalized or simplified.
The open call invites artists to critically engage with these narratives. We welcome artistic practices that examine how national narratives are embodied, sustained, challenged, or reimagined across political, cultural, and everyday contexts.
What the Residency Offers
• Accommodation and studio in Prague
• Curatorial support and guidance throughout the residency
• economy-class train ticket from Berlin to Prague and back
• A fixed contribution towards living and project-related expenses:
€2,500 total (€1,000 gross per month)
• Opportunity to share the artistic work and research developed during the open studios event
About MeetFactory
MeetFactory is a non-for-profit international center for contemporary art. We support original projects in the fields of visual arts, theater, and music as well as interdisciplinary and experimental platforms. We aim to create a space where art is alive, and artists are present, enhancing a direct exchange between international artists and the visitors, as well as between different fields and generations.
The international Artist-in-Residency Programme was established in 2007 and is the largest studio programme in the Czech Republic. It offers creative residencies for cultural professionals – visual artists, curators, theoreticians and visual art theorists. It creates a space for fostering dialogue between the Czech and international art scenes, support for the creation of new projects and introduces interesting international personalities to the domestic audience. It also supports the involvement of residents in the MeetFactory programme and often collaborates with the gallery programme. The programme generally operates on a reciprocal basis, which means that we work with several international partners. Through these partnerships we send Czech artists to partner institutions and in return host artists from partner countries. Our aim is to support the residents financially, to provide them with a monthly artist fee, accommodation and a studio, and therefore we also strive for reciprocity and to obtain the same conditions for Czech artists.
