To mark its 50th anniversary, Künstlerhaus Bethanien 2024 has published a comprehensive anniversary publication under the direction of Christoph Tannert.
The contributions approach Künstlerhaus Bethanien from different perspectives and shed light on its history as well as its political, social and topographical location. In doing so, it becomes clear how closely the institutional development is linked to the respective historical contexts – from the early years to the present.
Another focus is on the transformation of the exhibition program, the International Studio Program and the annual BE Magazine. The texts trace how curatorial approaches, artistic practices and international networks have changed and expanded over five decades.
The anniversary publication is suitable both as an introduction to the history of Künstlerhaus Bethanien and as in-depth reading for readers with an interest in institutional practice, contemporary art and cultural-political contexts.
