{"id":23821,"date":"2018-07-31T13:01:25","date_gmt":"2018-07-31T13:01:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/zen-morse.176-96-136-90.plesk.page\/en\/?post_type=kb_artist&#038;p=23821"},"modified":"2018-07-31T13:01:17","modified_gmt":"2018-07-31T13:01:17","slug":"ryan-takaba","status":"publish","type":"kb_artist","link":"https:\/\/bethanien.de\/en\/artists\/ryan-takaba\/","title":{"rendered":"Ryan Takaba"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Growing up in Hawai`i, I spent much of my childhood observing my grandparent\u2019s attentiveness to their landscape, a residence built upon ancient lava rock.\u00a0\u00a0My memory of this place holds a mythology of its own, a vast landscape imbued with beauty and power, but in reality, it was a humble garden outside a 1940\u2019s bungalow.\u00a0\u00a0When my grandfather passed, my grandmother tended to a smaller garden and visited him every morning through daily prayer.\u00a0\u00a0A prayer involving lighting a candle, burning incense, and arranging fresh flowers.<\/p>\n<p>My studio practice stems from my research in landscape, architecture, and design looking to my grandmother as a source to investigate how objects are used, cared for, and honored.\u00a0\u00a0I am interested in the arrangement of these objects, and through their use, meaning and the composition can change over time.\u00a0\u00a0My practice is performative and durational, attending to the pieces daily through the length of a show.\u00a0\u00a0In some works, I cut, assemble, and connect flowers to complete a composition, and sort stem sizes to regulate its flow of water.\u00a0\u00a0I light candles to use heat to break wax patterns, and I burn incense to mark the wall and cascade ash.\u00a0\u00a0This act engages themes of longing, waiting, and return.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"template":"","categories":[],"class_list":["post-23821","kb_artist","type-kb_artist","status-publish","hentry"],"acf":{"article_image":23815,"article_image_bu_de":"49 to a new \"unfurl\" (Day 16), 2017, porcelain, white mums, water, magnets, 10 cm x 335 cm x 4 cm","article_image_bu_en":"49 to a new \"unfurl\" (Day 16), 2017, porcelain, white mums, water, magnets, 10 cm x 335 cm x 4 cm","datum_suche":"2018-07-31 13:01:25"},"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v28.6 -
