‘Vorbei ist nicht vor\u00fcber’ is a visual exploration of an individual or society’s interaction with their past and history. The title of this project is taken from writer Elias Canetti’s pithy phrase “Vorbei ist nicht vor\u00fcber” (Gone is not over). With this parody of the German saying “vorbei ist vorbei” (over is over), he succinctly formulated the need for a culture of remembrance.<\/p>\n
In this project, Manami will research Stolpersteine as a famous example of the culture of remembrance and develop it into an artwork.<\/p>\n
As a multimedia artist Manami works with photography, video, text, and installation. Her works deal with intimacy and personal narratives depicted by the visual and documentation of private conversations and collected records of an individual. Manami Uetake\u2019s special interest lays in the question of how we can share the other’s memory personally and publicly, especially with regard to the culture of remembrance.<\/p>\n
