\u2018I am exploring the physical and psychological spaces around me. I am hoping to find a diverse mode of thinking through our current moment in time in order to address human agency, identity, cognitive processes and social concerns in stimulating and sometimes challenging ways. I like to tell a story with my art about the impact we have on the world and people around us, and our potential to shape history and lives while we are alive. Many of my pieces are found in public settings, where they activate their environment with a site-specific narrative and thoughtfully respond to the social history and function of the site. I detect currents from the past and present and translate these through a filter of cross-cultural observations into sculpture or mixed media art. I make fingerprints of our time from my own, global perspective to invoke empathy, healing and understanding.\u2019 \u2013 Sabine Senft<\/p>\n
Sabine Senft (b. 1970) is an interdisciplinary artist whose practice bridges sculpture, public art, mixed media, video and photography, often bringing together unlikely, symbolic elements in a single installation. She creates balanced yet poignant works that merge the personal with a wider socio-political narrative and reflect her ongoing investigation of individual and collective human agency. <\/p>\n
She earned a Bachelor\u2019s Degree in Fine Art from the University of Regensburg (1994) and graduated with a Master\u2019s Degree in Fine Art and Education in Munich (1995). After living and working in Germany, England, Japan and Brazil, she settled in San Antonio, Texas.<\/p>\n
She has won recognition with the Rick Liberto Award for Visual Arts and the Artist Foundation of San Antonio Grant, and has been awarded the 2021 Arts and Letters Award for artistic merit by the Friends of the San Antonio Public Library (FOSAPL). <\/p>\n
Her work has been exhibited at Artpace, McNay Art Museum and Blue Star Contemporary in San Antonio, Lawndale in Houston and Museum of Biblical Art in Dallas. Her latest public art commissions have been installed at the South Dallas Government Center and in the San Antonio Medical Center. Her work has been reviewed in Sculpture and several other regional and international publications. At present she is working on more public art for the San Antonio Medical Center.<\/p>\n
