Una Björg Magnúsdóttir is an artist based in Reykjavík whose interdisciplinary practice takes on the form of installation, sculpture and images. Una plays a variety of tricks in her work to raise questions about beauty, values, and our existence, behaviour, and demeanour. To this end, she uses texture and value-laden materials in a subtle but spare way. Through precise arrangements of unassuming objects, the works create a certain façade in which the circumstances seem simple and unsuspicious. Yet the works take on a tacit deceptiveness and teeter on elusive dividing lines between the real and the imitative to summon the viewer’s keen attention.
