Marike Schuurman’s photos are evidence of her marked sense of form; they are clearly structured. At the same time, they trigger many questions. They usually suggest a story, but the details of this remain unclear. The tension in her works arises from this breach between clear form and open content. It seems that several perspectives have been brought together into one single image, as if in a long, sustained moment.<\/p>\n

The artist finds her motifs in the streets. She is fascinated by whatever can be discovered in everyday life, trivial as it may often seem. The important thing is to be patient while looking, her works appear to say. Those who pay attention will see that the same thing actually always differs. This is what reveals the complexity of an image and the reality surrounding us. And only in this way can the viewer find freedom to follow his imagination.<\/p>\n
