For the exhibition at K\u00fcnstlerhaus Bethanien he has developed a series of works examining the fixation of the past, as well as enabling us to experience the complex relations of spatiality and temporality.<br \/>\nStarting out from a philosophical and natural scientific background and determined by a powerful sensitivity to nature, he interrelates himself and his surroundings, and investigates the linear and cyclic processes of his own working method. Distance and proximity \u2012 as heterogeneous, opposing aspects of the experience of time-space and as apparently measurable dimensions \u2012 define many of his works, as in the series<em> Towards Nothing<\/em>, in which he draws kilometres by repeating a single 10cm-long pencil-line an infinite number of times on the paper. He sees his exhibition pieces as fragments of time, not to be understood as an isolated utterance but always in connection with the sea.<\/p>\n<p>Mikko Rikala lives and works in Helsinki.
