Reed Still works with language, documents, and institutional systems — not as subjects in themselves, but as materials of production and as sites where meaning is negotiated. Reed Still’s practice engages with how institutional language and forms of address shape visibility, structure recognition, and define what is registered as labour or excluded from record.

In doing so, the work revisits and rearticulates concerns historically associated with “institutional critique,” shifting their focus toward contemporary conditions of governance, language, and visibility. Rather than assuming institutions as stable structures, the artist is interested in how they operate through processes of inclusion, absorption, and translation — where critical or oppositional gestures can be incorporated without necessarily altering underlying systems.

Working from this condition, Reed Still approaches institutional contexts as shifting fields of relation rather than fixed entities. The works often operate in the gap between administrative logics and lived processes — where meaning is produced, displaced, or withheld through acts of writing, classification, and documentation. Authorship, in this sense, appears less as origin than as a distributed relation embedded in systems of recording and erasure.
