The evening opens with two book presentations: Ruti de Vries and Tracey Snelling present their newly published books, each offering a comprehensive look into their artistic practice. Ruti de Vries’s artistic practice resembles an ever-growing spiral, in which new motifs and materials continually merge into an enigmatic, recurring visual world, as currently seen in her exhibition Pocket Lines. Tracey Snelling, in turn, conveys an impression of specific places, their inhabitants, and their atmosphere through sculpture, photography, video, and installation—often focusing on environments threatened by gentrification, political unrest, or erasure. The conversations will be moderated by Philipp Lange and held in English.
Following the book presentations, the exhibition It Started with a Pear by Noé Duboutay will be activated through a performance. The characters of the girl, the horse, and the knight step out of the narrative into real space. Drawing on the medieval verse romance Le Roman de Silence, the resulting body of work questions socially prescribed roles and gender images and brings fluid forms of identity into view.
